The role of sound and music in the process of growth, regeneration, healing and integration has since ancient times filled the human understanding with wonder, fascination and awe. Facing today’s world of tremendous inner, social and global challenges, it is not surprising that “the magic and healing power of sound” is rediscovered and finds expression in manifold conventional and innovative applications, from the ever present impact of the mass media to new disciplines of sound and music therapy to the reemerging of the archaic and sacred traditions. SVARAM is contributing substantially to this new wave of sound awareness with pioneering efforts in the field of musical instruments and sound healing. Applications for Personal Growth Contemplative listening and creative expression support the growing individual in its unfoldment and integrative movement towards a centered and harmonious well-being. In many years of encounters with people with apparent no contact or talent with music, it is always such a rewarding experience to witness how the power of sound –often through spontaneous play – is effecting and changing personalities and old conditionings in a very positive way. As if sound itself is the guide, leading the explorer along the path of self discovery. According to the individual disposition any of the Svaram Instruments can take the role of this companion, friend, the inner child and reminder for our inherent good and balance. And often the journey with the instruments becomes a symbol for our search for harmony. Applications for Music Therapy Basically we find two approaches in Music Therapy, the passive listening, vibrational healing one and the active participatory, co-creative method. Certain Instruments of our production have a unique and exceptional quality of resonance (sound stones, tubular bells, sound healing table…) or specific sound effects (shell horn, ocean drum, storm drum, rain stick, rain rattle…) and are ideal for sound therapy. Additionally most of the instruments are easy to play, simple, sturdy and affordable and can quickly create and equip a music or therapy room. Applications for Home & Environmental Harmony Our work over more than 20 years with Wind Chimes (initiated by a study of the Chinese art and science of Feng Shui) has brought us rich experience in the harmonization of homes and spaces through the introduction of selected and specifically tuned chimes of various sizes and materials, and results now in our newly created series of Vastu Wind Chimes. We are further working on a new development of house and table bells, single tubular gongs, meditation bells on the base of planetary frequencies to bring more awareness and harmony into the private cooperate and public environment. SVARAM has worked on commissions for public sound installation, creating sound-scapes in gardens and parks through the application of suspended extra large –upto 2 meters – wind chimes. Applications for Healing & Wellness With the growing need and appearance of healing and wellness centers and environments created for the restoration and sustainability of personal and public health the important place of sound and music in the harmonization of our life is coming to the fore and we are happy that our research and instruments finds a wider echo and appropriate application. Especially the aspect of the resonating quality and the invitation to creativity can make the SVARAM Instruments essential factors in your work and projects. Applications for the Sacred It had been an auspicious calling a few years ago when the SVARAM team had been invited to work for a newly built temple on tubular bells which “would resonate with the sound of OM”. Of course its sounds presumptuous to recreate the great universal sound in a small human made instrument, but the experimental work results now that we can offer finely tuned chimes, either played by the wind our individually struck, to enhance the atmosphere of sacred places, meditation spaces or ashrams. Visitors to such places often are enamored by the vibration or mysterious, invisible sound of the “heavenly bells”. |
